Information for Clients

What to Expect

If you are new to therapy, the unknown can be intimidating. I would like to take a moment to give you an idea of what to expect.

The first therapy session is considered an intake session. I will spend time getting to know what problems you are facing, what symptoms you may be experiencing, how your life is being impacted by them, and what you hope to address and improve in therapy. We will create a treatment plan in either the first or second session to outline your goals and to discuss what type of therapy or interventions would be most appropriate.

All other sessions tend to have a common format. At the start of a session, I ask for an update on how you have been doing and what has been happening in your life. We will take a moment to discuss what we want to cover during the session. From there, we can discuss what is on your mind, work toward the goals outlined on your treatment plan, or do a number of other interventions depending on your situation and your preferences, such as learning new coping techniques, processing painful emotions or past trauma, problem-solving, doing mindfulness or relaxation exercises, and many others.

I always encourage feedback and am happy to discuss changes to the way you want your sessions to go, new topics you want to address, or any other ideas you have that will allow you to receive the type of care that is most helpful to you.

Billing & Auto-Pay

All clients are required to have a debit or credit card on file that will be charged following each therapy session. Enrolling in Auto-Pay is required due to the virtual nature of the practice and to ensure that payment is received promptly.

If a client is paying out-of-pocket rather than through insurance, the amount charged will include a service fee in the amount of 2.6% + $0.30 processing fee. For example, if the session is $100, the client is billed $102.90. Cancellation fees are also subject to service fees. For insurance claims, there is no credit card processing fee for copay or coinsurance payments.

Please Note: Prior to your first session, clients paying with insurance will submit their insurance information for verification to ensure coverage and to receive an estimate on what they will owe out-of-pocket per session. This is helpful to anticipate what amount will be charged per session via Auto-Pay. Clients that are using self-pay and paying entirely out-of-pocket without using insurance must also have a card on file. The cost for a 60-minute therapy session out-of-pocket is $100.00 unless other arrangements have been made between the client and the provider.

No-Show & Cancellation Policy

Appointments should be canceled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice if at all possible. Canceling or rescheduling an appointment within less than 24 hours notice may result in a late cancellation/no-show fee in the amount of $30.00. This fee will be processed using the card kept on file for payment.

Not showing up for an appointment within 15 minutes of the appointment start time is considered a "no-show". A no-show may result in late cancellation/no-show fee in the amount of $30.00. This fee will be processed using the card kept on file for payment.

Video Sessions

The Liminal Space is a completely virtual practice. I do not provide in-person sessions at this time. When an appointment is scheduled, you will receive an email with a link to click on at the time of your session. The link brings you to a HIPAA-compliant video platform where our therapy session will take place. Both audio and video are required for appointments. I am not able to do appointments without your video camera on. I also encourage you to do your therapy session in a private space without interruptions if at all possible.

FAQ

Q: What are your hours?

A: I offer therapy appointments Monday-Friday from 11am to 7pm. Occasional exceptions are made. I can be contacted outside of session at any time and try to return calls and messages within 48 hours.

Q: Do you take insurance?

A: Yes. I take most plans from Aetna, Cigna, and Optum/United Healthcare. I am happy to help you verify coverage prior to starting therapy.

Q: How much does therapy cost out-of-pocket?

A: A therapy session costs $100 out-of-pocket.

Q: Do you offer sliding scale pricing?

A: I offer sliding scale pricing on a very limited basis. I am only able to take 2-3 sliding scale clients at a time so these spots fill up quickly. If you would like to know more, please contact me.

Q: Do your offer therapy sessions in-person? Online?

A: The Liminal Space is currently a completely virtual practice. All therapy sessions are provided through video. No in-person sessions are available at this time.

Q: How long are therapy sessions?

A: All therapy sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length.

Q: How frequently do therapy sessions take place?

A: At the start of therapy, I normally recommend scheduling an appointment weekly or every other week. Depending on a client's needs and preferences, the frequency of therapy sessions can change over time. I generally do not recommend going longer than two weeks between sessions if possible so that therapeutic progress and momentum are not lost. If a client is interested in gradually tapering off of therapy over time, an exception to this can be made.
